In the mid 1850’s  inventor John Tyndall performed a  demonstration using water fountains. These early experiments led to the development of television when inventor John Logie Baird demonstrated the transmission of moving images at the London Institute in 1925

In 1952,  physicist Narinder Singh Kapany invented the first actual fiber optical cable based on John Tyndall’s experiments three decades earlier

The barrier was broken in 1970 by four research scientists working for Corning Glass Works (now Corning Inc.), Since then fiber optic has become the standard for many industries.

Optical fiber is used as a medium for than just telecommunication and computer networking.  It is especially advantageous for long-distance communications, because  light moves through the fiber with much greater success compared to electrical cables.
