As of July 16, 2022, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is fully operational. This three-digit number provides 24/7 access to free and confidential support for people experiencing mental health-related distress. This initiative aims to streamline access to crisis intervention services. Michigan residents, like those across the nation, must now dial the full 10-digit number when making local calls in area codes 906, 989, 616, and 810, following the change implemented to accommodate the new 988 lifeline. The previous hotline number, 1-800-273-8255 (TALK), remains active and directs callers to the same resources.
